At Madam Stoltz, sustainability starts with the everyday choices we make. By working with fast-growing, natural materials such as bamboo, seagrass and the remarkable Paulownia tree, we aim to create interiors with character while keeping our footprint lighter. It’s not about being perfect – it’s about being mindful, taking responsibility where we can, and choosing materials that feel right in the hands and make a difference over time.
Sustainability starts with the choices we make
At Madam Stoltz, sustainability isn’t about being flawless – it’s about taking responsibility where we can. We believe that small choices can make a big difference.
That’s why we work consciously with natural and fast-growing resources – such as bamboo, seagrass and the extraordinary Paulownia tree. Materials that both care for the planet and create spaces with character.
Nature as a partner
Bamboo and seagrass aren’t just beautiful and durable materials – they’re also among the fastest growing. They require few resources and can be harvested again and again without depleting the soil. At the same time, they give our designs texture and an organic lightness that brings nature right into the home.
Paulownia – the tree that grows back
Among wood species, Paulownia is the 100-metre champion. It grows extremely fast and can increase by up to 5 metres a year – and it doesn’t need to be replanted. The tree sprouts again from the root, making it ideal for sustainable forestry and CO₂ capture.
And the benefits don’t stop there:
-
Lightweight yet strong: Combines low weight with high strength – ideal for lightweight structures and furniture.
-
Easy to work with: Simple to saw, turn and assemble – with no risk of cracks or splinters.
-
Efficient drying: Dries quickly and evenly with minimal shrinkage and low energy use.
-
High CO₂ absorption: Captures up to 10× more CO₂ per hectare than traditional conifer forests.
-
Natural regeneration: Grows back after felling – no replanting required.
Paulownia is therefore not only a beautiful material – it’s a conscious, sustainable choice that makes it possible to create more with a smaller climate footprint.
